A brief guide for sellers
It’s entirely up to each seller how their sale is run. This includes deciding on prices, looking after your takings and other belongings; choosing whether to keep any proceeds or donate them to a charity and taking responsibility for the safety/behaviour of anyone who visits your sale and for handling any come-backs from unsatisfied customers.
So long as what you’re selling is LEGAL, DECENT and SAFE and you stay within the boundaries of your home, you can sell whatever you like without the need for any permits or licences. This totally rules out sales of alcohol. Ditto selling faulty electrical items, or making false claims (e.g. suggesting an item is antique when it isn’t or that it is by a fancy designer when it comes from a market).
Selling/serving home-made foodstuffs is okay but be aware that hygiene and labelling rules may apply. For the latest guidance, see: www.food.gov.uk
